Diwali Road Trip - Introduction

This is my first blog in the 15yrs of my internet world.

I have always wanted to write about my travel experiences around the world and in India. I am happy that finally i am doing it. I wanted to write about my 9 day road trip to Gujarat and Rajasthan during Diwali holidays. In Thane where we live now, the schools are closed for 15-20 days during Diwali.

With Bangalore as our base, we had done a lot of road trips. We have driven to Kanyakumari, numerous trips to Coimbatore (a few Via Ooty !), Vyanard, Madikeri, Goa (via Jog Falls, Murudeshwar) and uncountable trips to Chennai. Ajay was nine months when we moved to Chennai. After moving to Chennai we did not do any long distance driving for almost 5 years, except for a few trips to Pondicherry.

We relocated to Thane in April 2011. It is always exciting to move to a new city. The hectic and the fast pace of Mumbai lifestyle pushes you to the extremes - either total shutdown/relaxation or getting away from the city during the weekends. Once a month we try to take a break doing some sightseeing trips.

Madhu loves his long drives and i love the excitement of navigating him :-) The excitement kicked in when we realized we had 10 days at our disposal during Diwali. With Ajay away from us, we decided to take a road trip to visit places which may not interest him.

We wanted to drive around Gujarat and southern Rajasthan. It was decided that we would drive to Rann of Kutchch and go forward to the next destination as per our physical and mental state :-)

Our tentative itinerary was : Thane - Rann of Kutchch(Dhordo) - Dholavira - Ahmedabad or Mt Abu - Thane or Udaipur - Thane.
